Bilbao offers a wide variety of public transportation services. You can move around the city and other nearby towns using different types of transportation: Metro, Bilbobus, Tram, Train and Taxi.
Barik: The universal Public Transportation Card in Biscay
The Barik Card is a transportation card valid in all of public transportation in Biscaya. You can get this card in any of the metro stations in Bilbao and other selling points such as RENFE or Bizkaibus stations.
There are two versions of the Barik card:
Anonymous Barik Card: This card has a cost of 3€ and you can use it to move around Biscay once you make a mínimum recharge of 5€ into it. If you decide to buy this card, you´ll have the chance to share it with another person. If you are travelling with another person, you both can use the same card to pay for the bus.
Personalized Barik Card: Unlike the Anonymous Barik Card, the personalized card is only valid for its owner, you can not share it with another person. One of the advantages of this card is that in the case you lose it, you can recover your balance. To get these specific cards, you´ll need to visit the metro stations of San Inazio, Ansio or Casco Viejo.

It's probably the most popular means of transport in the city due to its speed and good connections with surrounding cities.

Bilbobus is the local bus service that connects all of the districts, offering a nightly service during the weekend. If you already have a Barik, the price is 0.65€.

Another transportation option that helps you move around the city. It connects casco viejo with the whole city and goes by the river offering you amazing views of Bilbao. The price with the Barik card is 0.75€.

There are different Taxi radios available in Bilbao. The price of a taxi varies depending on the distance and the time of the service. There is also the possibility of taking an uber although sometimes you would have to wait since there aren’t a lot of cars available yet.

The municipal Bike Share Service of Bilbao,"Bilbaobizi", is conceived as a public service of individual rental of electric bicycles that aims to favor and promote this healthy, sustainable and non-polluting means of transport by the city. There are many bicycle pickup and drop off points spread throughout Bilbao. All you need to do is book an appointment through email or telephone and for a symbolic fee you can ride the bicycles freely for the time you are going to be staying here. If you are interested in this service you are urged to book an appointment as soon as possible, since the next available date can sometimes be a month’s time away.
